Singing Cultures Journey

Music of Many Colours

Music of Many Colours‘ – an evening of singing, poetry and discussion marked the end of Phase 1 of Singing Cultures. The event took place on Saturday 17th December 2016 at Rivington Place, London’s global art space.

The Singing Cultures Choir gave an impassioned performance with a repertoire combining Sowande songs, African folksongs and original songs.

The visual installation using rare footage provided a personal encounter with the music and legacy of Fela Sowande. Deborah Aloba’s (Chair of Transculturalvisions) poetry readings were heart-warming capturing the choir’s aspirations for a better world. A vibrant panel discussion with Edson Burton, Victoria Oruwari, Rowland Sutherland, Vincent Osborne, Bilkis Malek and Juwon Ogungbe addressed the possibilities of classical music speaking to a common humanity.
